Completion

All good things must come to an end but what a wonderful experience the trip has been for everyone. We had the opportunity to make new friends within our group, but also with students from two schools located in Texas.
The play "Wicked" was magnificent..... the setting, the actors, the singing, the experience of being at a Broadway play, etc. all of it was superb. The students enjoyed the entire experience, and then to top it off - we found out that Katie Holmes and her daughter had been in attendance and was being swept away in limos as we reached the outside area. Quite a rush for everyone. The group had  pictures taken by a photographer in Times Square at 11:00 p.m. and then the extremely tired group were taken via bus (thank you....) back to the hotel.
Thursday morning began with a 5:15 a.m wake-up call. All of the luggage was taken to Mrs. Cross' room by 6:15 a.m. for the tour company to place on bus later that morning. It was humorous to watch the placing of items from one bag to another so that everything purchased could be brought back to TN.  We had our own little leprechaun with us on our journey (thank you Amanda.) We ate breakfast in an Irish restaurant (St Patrick's Day) and then subway rides to Times Square, the MET, and Grand Central Station. We ate lunch at the station and then walked to the New York Library. The students were quite surprised by the way some of the people were dressed for St. Patty's Day and the parade. Then it was time for the ride to the airport.
Our flight was delayed for two hours and we arrived at DMS around 1:30 a.m. It was an extremely long day for all but enjoyed.
We want to thank everyone who played a part in this excursion made by 11 students and 4 adults. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and will be a cherished memory by all 15. We hope to put short essays by the students on the blog as they come to us during spring break and the week back to school.

Day 2

Day 2 began with a walk to the Brooklyn Bridge and attempting to not get run over by bicyclists.... they travel very quickly and have bells to ring right before they hit someone. .... But we were all missed...
Then rode subway to Central Park and took a walking tour. We ate lunch and then toured the American Museum of Natural History, where "Night of the Museum" was filmed.
China town was quite interesting for everyone - from the tourists' shops to the fish markets... They tried the deserts at the bakery in Little Italy. Next was supper at HB Burgers and then the trip to the Empire State Building at 8:00 p.m. It was extremely windy outside on the 86th  floor of the Empire State Building..... We took many pictures and the students absolutely loved it. We cannot brag on our students enough. They have been awesome and very well behaved. They have made us very proud of them.

Day 1

Well, you know the saying about the best laid plans.....we thought spending the night in Nashville was a great idea and it was, however, the maximum amount of sleep was three hours.  We arrived at the airport at 4:00 A.M. and check-in went wonderful. The flight was great - faces and moans were priceless.
Shawn, our guide, met us at the airport and we did a walking tour of the entire city of New York - just kidding, but our feet and bodies feel like it. We did begin the day with eating hot dogs at Gray's Papaya then walked to  Central Park for the short tour with a few features along the way. We toured NBC studios and Rockefeller Center. St. Patrick's Cathedral was absolutely breath-taking.
The pictures will not do it justice and the students were in awe. Fifth Avenue was a hit, especially for the girls who had their pictures taken with a male model. Fao Schwartz was a fun and then the walk back to meet our tour guide and walk Time Square.  We ate supper at Bacco's went to the M&M and the Hershey's stores.  The day ended with an exhausted group riding the subway to our hotel and we hope to be rested and ready to tour again tomorrow.

The Beginning of the Trip

We leave the middle school on Sunday afternoon and spend the night in Nashville. Our flight for NYC is extremely early on Monday morning.  The trip will be fabulous and we will post as our trip progresses.
